Core-Asset Consulting's Client, an Investment Manager in Edinburgh, has an opportunity for a Junior Software Developer to join its business on a permanent basis.


  • Degree in a relevant subject or equivalent expertise
  • Background IT technologies and processes
  • Microsoft SQL server
  • Microsoft C#.Net (Visual Studio)
  • Good record of delivery for projects ranging from small to medium-sized
  • Has demonstrated they have delivered quality and continuous improvements
  • Experience of a Systems Development Lifecycle.
  • Good understanding of development and project management methodologies


  • Previous experience from an asset manager
  • Good understanding of the investment management process and how business teams use supported applications so that support offered is knowledgeable and efficient
  • 3 years' experience in a IT capacity

Core responsibilities:

  • Business solutions: Design, build and test solutions that meet the needs of the business users, adhering to the IT strategy and IT standards, methodologies, policies and procedures. Participate in the evaluation process for new solutions.
  • Support and maintenance: Take responsibility for support calls or small requests that have been assigned, maintaining systems to perform in a reliable, scalable and robust manner. Ensure that issues are thoroughly investigated, critical incidents are dealt with quickly, and there is regular communication with customers to ensure they are aware of the current position. Provide an administrator function as required on specific systems. Providing appropriate out of hours' support for business teams as required.
  • Analyse requirements: Carry out investigation, analysis and documentation of business problems in terms of functions and processes, and the information and systems they use. Maintain a level of customer focus at all times. Maintain regular and effective communication with users in business areas impacted by the change
  • Communication: Maintain good levels of communication with other members of IT, the wider
  • business and 3rd party suppliers. Ensure business users and senior staff are kept up-to-date with progress and manage expectations. Provide overview and presentations of project
  • implementations as required.
  • Project management: Participate in small projects, delivering tasks to agreed deadlines under
  • the direction of a Project Manager, Business Systems Analyst or Senior Analyst/Programmer. Provide regular status reports when required. Deliver changes to time, quality and cost requirements, and liaise with business users and IT Service Delivery to manage and coordinate testing. Properly schedule implementations and installations with support staff and ensure they are involved at a sufficiently early stage
  • Procedures and documentation: Ensure all methodologies and procedures that apply to the role are followed, particularly concerning change control and configuration management. Maintain the appropriate documentation and look for ways to enhance documentation and procedures as a way of sharing knowledge on applications. Where a solution is required, ensure the testing and implementation is carried out properly to the required standards and timescales, and meets cost and quality requirements. Carry out peer reviews for any developed components, in line with design standards and review principles
