In this role you will function as a VP, Software Engineering Lead for WM Operations & Client Service Technology

  • Lead the Observability and Monitoring COE center in Glasgow
  • Define and enhance the Observability Maturity Model for the group and help uplift maturity levels
  • Continuous improvement of our SRE/DevOps, tooling and processes to enable us to deliver more value
  • Define and implement full plant monitoring patterns including business and technical SLIs, SLOs and SLAs
  • Design, Code, Test and Deliver software to automate manual operational work
  • Active participation in an agile development process, including working closely with the business
  • Close engagement with Architects and Design Authorities across multiple areas
  • Participate in Architecture & Engineering forums, perform design reviews
  • Participate in Development Modernization and adoption of emerging/modern technologies
  • Align with the security standards and guidelines to ensure systems are secure and protected
Qualifications and Capabilities
  • BS/BA in Computer Science or equivalent degree
  • Experience in software development of Java/J2EE applications
  • Knowledge of SRE/DevOps practices and tools
  • Excellent analytical and communication skills
  • Creative problem solver and solutions developer
  • Expertise in application, data, and infrastructure architecture disciplines
  • Advanced knowledge of architecture and design across all systems
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages
  • Knowledge of industry-wide technology trends and best practices
  • Ability to work in large, collaborative teams to achieve organizational goals
  • Passionate about building an innovative culture
Technical Knowledge:
  • Experience with
    • Java (Core & EE, Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Cloud)
    • SCM / DevOps / CI/CD tools & process (GIT/Bitbucket, Maven, Ant, Jenkins, Sonar)
    • Scripting languages (Python, Bash, Perl, PowerShell)
    • Web Technologies (JavaScript, HTML 5, CSS, JSON, REST, GraphQL)
    • Testing tools & frameworks (JUnit, Selenium, Cucumber, Mockito)
    • Agile Methodology and Tools (JIRA)
    • RDBMS systems and SQL (Oracle, AuroraDB, MySQL, Sybase, PostGres)
    • Big Data / NoSQL (Hadoop, Cassandra)
  • Experience with Cloud and on premise Observability and Monitoring services and machine data technologies (Datadog, Dynatrace, Grafana, AppDynamics, Splunk, ITRS Geneos)
  • Experience with MicroServices & Layered (SOA/MVC) Architecture
  • Experience with Integration patterns and messaging technologies such as Kafka, RabbitMQ
  • Experience with Caching solutions such as Hazlecast, EhCache, Redis, Ignite
  • Experience with Cloud deployments (Private Cloud / AWS / Azure)
  • Experience with Cloud Platforms, Container/Orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, Cloud Foundry)
